A Day Trip to the Coast of Maine

Dave and I just celebrated our 24th Wedding Anniversay!  We’re planning on taking a trip next summer to celebrate the big one!  This summer Dave went on a business trip to Europe, and I went to Washington DC with my sisters a few weekends ago, so we decided to take a day trip to Maine together to celebrate our special day.  (With a 17 year old at home, it’s not the best time for us to go away together overnight.)

We have never been to Cape Elizabeth or Portland, ME, so we decided to have lunch in Cape Elizabeth at The Lobster Shack at Two Lights.  It was recommended on the Phantom Gourmet.  When we got there, we were surprised to see the fog hugging the shore.  It was a beautiful spot by the sea just the same!

Check out the line of people waiting to order!  Luckily, the line moved along pretty quickly and didn’t take too long.  It gave me a chance to talk to one of the locals.  Apparently, this is the place to go to if you want a good seafood dinner in Cape Elizabeth!

Dave really enjoyed his Fried Scallop Plate!

And I loved my Seafood Plate with fried clams, shrimp, scallops, and haddock.  Don’t worry!  I didn’t eat the whole thing!  Just the seafood and the coleslaw!  I had a ton of french fries left over.  It was awesome.  I’d definitely go back.

We walked around the restaurant and took pictures after.

When we drove about 15 minutes north to Portland, the fog was gone!  What a beautiful place to visit on a summer day!

I’d love to have dinner on the DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant next time we go there!

There are lots of tours and scenic cruises that you can go on.

I would love to do one of these tours! How about you?

There are some great shops in Portland and the buildings have a lot of character.

Check out these watering cans I saw at one shop!

Have you ever been to the coast of Maine?  Where’s your favorite summer spot?

Congrats to you two on your anniversary! Jane - you’re such a tease! ;-} All of these photos are amazing. What a nice day trip! We’ve always wanted to get to the NE states, but as hubby’s health declines (& dialysis draws near) I don’t think we’ll make it, so thank you for letting me enjoy gazing at your lovely photos. =) We have been to Myrtle Beach a couple of times and LOVE it there. There’s nothing more relaxing than being by the water. I enjoyed a lobster bisque on an island trip a few years ago and would just love to have it again. Thank you for sharing -

My home state is Maine. So good to hear you had a great time there. I want some fried clams! Your photo has me drooling. I love them! I have to wait until October when I go. Really enjoyed “sharing” your day through your great photos! Yes, go back again, and please remember to share it with us. Once you go to Maine, you just have to return.
