On Tuesday, Andrew was driving us home from school and we got rear-ended by a woman on her cell phone! Luckily, we didn’t get hit hard and everyone was fine. I’m so glad Andrew was not at fault! He’s going to get his license within a month. I swear my Honda Civic has 9 lives! It has been hit and fixed more times than you can imagine. Let’s hope this is the last time! Damage to the bumper - $500. Thank God for insurance!
On Wednesday night, I was in my classroom getting ready for Open House when all of a sudden my eye went cloudy! I had cataract surgery in that eye 3 weeks ago. As soon as our Open House was over, I called the doctor on-call. He told me to come into his office Thursday morning to check it. I had a detached retina in that eye 23 years ago so the doctor sent me to Boston on Friday (an hour and a half from home) to make sure it wasn’t a retina problem. After dilating my eyes and having several tests, my surgeon in Boston said my retina is fine (which lifted a huge weight off my shoulders) but I will need to have a tricky laser procedure in the near future to fix the problem. All in all, I feel very lucky. It could have been a lot worst.
Dave took the day off to take me to Boston. After my appointment, we decided to have lunch in The North End. Have you ever been there? It’s my favorite area in Boston! Even with sunglasses on, it was hard to see as we walked around because both of my eyes were dilated. I didn’t bring my camera but I did take some pics from my phone to share with you!
I bought some Italian almond cookies, Sicilian Olive oil, and instant espresso coffee (for my Tiramisu recipe) at my favorite Italian Specialty Shop - Salumeria!
We ate at this lovely restaurant! Geez, I just realized the chef statue is missing his right hand! Poor thing! I loved watching the Italian elderly men greet each other outside of our restaurant. They would kiss each other on the cheek and treat each other with such love and respect. It was nice to have an elderly man smile right at me and say “buon giorno” and it was fun to say it right back to him! I felt like I was in Italy!
I ordered a delicious meat and cheese stuffed cannelloni!
Dave ordered a yummy gnocchi with marinara sauce! We always order two different dishes and share so we can try more things. Do you do that?
Our day wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the famous Mike’s Pastry!
We savored every last bite of their amazing cannolis!
Our afternoon ended at my sister-in-law’s house where Andrew would be dropped off after school. This is my niece Jordyn enjoying a giant cookie we bought at Quincy Market! Check out her school uniform. She goes to my school and I will have the pleasure of teaching her next year!

What a week for sure! When it rains, it sometimes pours huh? Lovely pictures - and the cookie your niece is enjoying is almost as big as she is! Praying about that eye…take good care Dear. Keep up the great work - your posts are always wonderful!

I’m jealous! We don’t have such lovely places to eat without heading to…….hmmmm…..maybe Chicago?!?! Glad this week is over for you, no one was hurt in the accident, and your eye is doable. Nothing like teaching without being able to see. I had to have nodules removed from my vocal cords, and came back to teach with a loaded squirt gun (that was obviously like in the ’90’s when we could still do fun things like that!) so I wouldn’t have to repeat myself when I did talk!
Here’s to a much better week!

Hi Lana,
Yeah, having a squirt gun wouldn’t go over too big nowadays! I hope everything turned out okay with your vocal cords.

Wow, so many things to say! I too love my Honda Civic. I’m glad Andrew’s good with the car, that’s great for a new driver. I’m so sorry that you’re going to have to surgery, but I’m so glad it’s not worse. Our eyes are so important but such amazing little machines. We tend to take their little pieces for granted. I love your pictures, and I love making a more fun day out of a terrible errand like doctors and testing. I hate dilated pupils, but I’m glad you’ve got the pictures. My husband and I definitely share different orders! We once ordered the same thing and were a little bummed.
I’m glad you all are doing relatively well and that most scares were dealt with. I’m also so glad your Open House has happened already! That’s one less bit of stress now! Continue to be well!

Thanks everyone! It’s nice to be able to share things with you!

Wow what a week! Glad everything is ok.
When I worked in Boston, my husband and I would walk to the North End a couple times a month for lunch. Oh and Mikes…..swoon…..I miss Mikes! For my 21st birthday a couple guys from my office bought me a cake that was chocolate with this thick rich fudge between the layers. Oh my gosh…it was so good.
