Top Pot Hand-Forged Doughnuts Cookbook Giveaway!

 THIS GIVEAWAY IS OVER!

Thanks to this Top Pot Hand-Forged Doughnuts cookbook, I made my very first homemade doughnuts!  Pumpkin ones, to be exact!  Yep, I did it the old fashion way too!  Even though these doughnuts came out great, I definitely plan on getting an electric deep fryer to speed up the cooking process next time.  And trust me…there will be a next time!

When I got this cookbook in the mail, I immediately scanned it for a seasonal pumpkin doughnut recipe which I had been craving.  I was pleasantly surprised that I found what I was looking for and was happy to see how easy they were to make!  The hardest part was waiting around for the temperature on the candy thermometer to be where I needed it to be!  When you put dough in the hot oil, the temperature of the oil drops, so it’s not a quick thing to make unless you use an electric deep fryer that constantly regulates the temperature.

Check out my pumpkin doughnuts!

I coated half with a mixture of sugar and pumpkin spice

and the other half with a pumpkin glaze!  Holy cow, they were good!

I love that I can make the dough the night before and leave it in the refrigerator until I’m ready to make them!

I couldn’t cook too many at a time as the temperature fluctuated too much.

I had a blast watching them take shape!

I’m dying to make these Blueberry Cake Doughnuts and a dozen other kinds!

If you can stand more yumminess, check out this video of Top Pot Doughnuts!

Although I do like me a nice spudnut, or pumpkin spice cake donut as well.

I have made doughnuts, but I kind of cheated. I used canned biscuits (not the flaky kind) and I fried them up in some oil and shook them up in cinnamon sugar. Pretty quick and easy. I’d like to make some from scratch. My favorite is a plain doughnut with strawberry icing and sprinkles…or apple fritters.

I have never made donuts but have lots of recipes I have collected over the years on how to make different kinds of them. I would like to learn how to make the ‘krispy kreme’ glazed donut. I can’t pass by a donut shop without stopping in and getting a “krispy kreme” donut. I love them. Your donut pictures look so real like they could just jump out. Made me wanting to visit the bakery shop..LOL..

We have tried to make yeast doughnuts before from a recipe from my old Betty Crocker book. They tasted like fried bread with a bit of a nutmeg flavor.

The first and still best doughnuts I’ve ever made were from a recipe in my mom’s 1906 J. R. Watkins Cookbook. They were cake doughnuts with a healthy dose of nutmeg and a beautiful yellow cake consistency. We didn’t own an electric skillet, so I used Mom’s tried-and-true temperature control method — holding my hand above the oil filled skillet: 2 inches without intense pain was 365 degrees, perfect for frying! I made 2 dozen doughnuts: half for my school bake sale (where they sold out before the doors opened) and the other half for my five siblings. I’ve since made them a half dozen times and, although the technique and tools have made it easier, they just haven’t had the same zest as those first ones.

I have made homemade donuts with my father before…but, I wouldn’t call them scrumptious! They were a plain cake donut with little flavor and even less taste. He still makes them, but I have backed away!

When I was a little girl, my grandmother would let me help her make yeast raised doughnuts and we’d coat them in cinnamon sugar, shaking them in a brown paper sack. She’s always make extra “holes” just for me~

I made donuts for the first time this year. I made pumpkin donuts, cake style. My kids LOVED them and they are much cheaper than going to a donuts shop. Plus I added carrots and sweet potatoes to make them even more nutritious. So you could say that I’m on a donuts kick and would love additional recipes. Especially a good yeast type.
