I love using my crock pot on the weekends while I’m busy around the house! Not only do the meals taste great…it’s super easy and there’s usually less of a mess to clean up. With this in mind, I was thrilled to receive The Betty Crocker Big Book of Slow Cooker, Casseroles & More from Wiley to review and giveaway!
There are over 200 recipes in this cookbook with lots of beautiful pictures! The recipes are family friendly with easy-to-follow directions. It is divided into the following chapters:
- hearty soups, stews & chilies
- sizzling skillets & stir fries
- casseroles & other one-dish meals
- main dish favorites
- hearty sides
- dazzling desserts
The first recipe I tried was Salsa Swiss Steak with Noodles. It was flavorful and tender! And get this…it only has 4 ingredients including the beef! I will definitely make this again! I served it with Mexican rice and enjoyed the leftovers with Dave the next day.
The next recipe I tried was Country Apple Streusel Cake. I probably should have tried another slow cooker or casserole recipe, but once I saw the photo of this in the book, I had to try it. This was a great dessert! It has a layer of thinly-sliced apples underneath the streusel! It was like a tiny bit of Apple Crisp on top of a cake! Perfect with a cup of coffee! I also liked that it was made with half all-purpose flour and half whole wheat flour.

Rosemary chicken sounds divine! I just received an enourmous rosemary bush for Valentines and I’m trying to come up with ways to use it in cooking, instead of just rubbing my hands through it and smelling like rosemary all day!
