The holiday season is among us, and that means it’s going to get quite busy! With four kids, we have a lot going on, but we make sure to spend quality time together. Our family, as well as our extended family loves “Family Fun Night” where we pick a theme, make food, play games and watch a movie. We’ve done this for years now and it’s something that brings the whole family together. We try to make it as relaxing as possible so we tell everyone to wear comfy clothes, no make-up needed, and you don’t even have to do your hair! Everyone gets to pick what they would like to have so the menu is quite diverse, however, we like to keep it simple so we don’t spend a lot of time in the kitchen. We make sure the recipes are quick, delicious, and easy to prepare.
Once the games are chosen, the movie is picked, and the menu is made, we are off to the store. My daughter saw the McCain Sweet Potato Waffle Fries at Ahold and asked if we could pick them up and incorporate them into the family fun night. I know McCain Sweet Potato Fries are made with real sweet potatoes and they are naturally good so, of course, I said yes. We’ve tried other sweet potato fries and nothing compares to McCain’s. They bake up crispy and are delicious every time!
I normally have a lot of helpers in the kitchen so I like to designate one recipe per child so everyone can help out. I love having the kids in the kitchen with me; cooking together makes so many memories and it’s a great way to spend time together, especially during the holiday season! Being that my daughter wanted the sweet potato waffle fries, she got to make that recipe. She decided to make the sweet potato waffle fries like a baked potato that is loaded with all the delicious toppings! While the sweet potato waffle fries were baking, she mixed sour cream, some dry ranch seasoning mix, bacon, cheese, and onions together. After the fries were done, she placed a dollop of the mixture on top of each waffle fry and placed them back into the oven to warm up. Once they were removed from the oven she sprinkled on a dash of parsley. They turned out beautiful, and she prepared them herself! If you don’t want to get fancy like she did, you could make the topping, place it in a bowl, then use the McCain Sweet Potato Crinkle Fries as dippers. Loaded Sweet Potato Bites are the perfect appetizer for any family gathering.
Once all the food is prepared, we take everything into the living room to enjoy! It doesn’t have to all go together, what’s important is that we are all together enjoying our time with each other. Having products like McCain Sweet Potato Fries makes it easy to do. It cuts down prep work in the kitchen and allows us to spend good, quality family time together. Our kids are getting older, and we want them to have memories that will last a lifetime; having family together with good food is one way we can make certain that they do.
