Have you ever met someone that doesn’t like ice cream? I haven’t! When I think of summer, one of my favorite things to do is indulging in a delicious hot fudge sundae at Kimball Farm. Well, this year I started making my own ice cream and I can’t believe how easy it is. I checked out a number of ice cream cookbooks on line, and found that The Perfect Scoop by David Lebovitz, has often been referred to as the “ice cream bible.” After testing out 3 recipes from his book, I can see why it has gotten such rave reviews!
About the Author
David Lebovitz is a sought-after cooking instructor with an award-winning food blog (davidlebovitz.com). Trained as a pastry chef in France and Belgium, David worked at Chez Panisse in Berkeley, California for twelve years. He now lives in Paris, France, where he leads culinary tours of the city.
David’s cookbook includes ice creams, sorbets and sherbets, granitas, sauces and toppings, mix-ins, and vessels. Each recipe is followed by his “PERFECT PAIRINGS” where you can turn that recipe into one or more other creations. For his Coffee Ice Cream on page 34 (which is out of this world and I didn’t get a chance to photo), he includes this perfect pairing:
Make Coffee Ice Cream Brownie Sundaes by topping brownies (pages 220 and 221) with scoops of Coffee Ice Cream, then spooning Mocha Sauce (page 166) over the top, and finishing with a final flourish of French Almonds (page 189).

The first recipe I tried is the Chocolate Ice Cream on page 26. As we say here in New England…it’s “wicked” chocolatey! It really is creamy and decadent! I simply can’t say enough about it. I added some chopped almonds to my bowl for good measure. :)
Another great recipe on page 116-117, is Lemon Sherbet. This has just the right amount of lemon for my taste and is so refreshing on a hot, summer day! Love it!
This is definitely one of my favorite cookbooks that I’ve reviewed this year. The recipes that I tried so far are fail proof and so darn good! I highly recommend it!

I have to go with the good ol’ fashioned Ice Cream. The other treats are good, but nothing can top ice cream for me!

It’s definitely a “treat,” but I have to say ice cream!
I think my favorite is ice cream sandwiches. Like the other gal above I have trouble with dairy, soy and whey - but if I am craving ice cream I just make sure I plan on a 2 day weekend/day off so I can enjoy it and not worry about problems with the dairy at work. That way I can have my ice and enjoy my cream too!

For me, on a sultry summer day, it has to be orange sherbet. I’m reminded of the sound of the milkman arriving on our street, when I was a child. In the summer, every kid for four blocks would rush to buy a Hoodsie cup with the little wooden spoon.
Most of the year, ice cream is my first choice. However, on a steamy day in New England, sherbet is definitely the best.
I LOVE THEM ALL ! But if I have to choose, I pick ice cream!

I’ll start by saying, is it bad that I had to stop and think AND use my fingers to add up the spam question??? LOL. My family must be driving me batty! I have to say, my favorite is ICE CREAM!!! (and we all screamed in our heads when we read that! LOL) We are having an ice cream social at our church Sunday so I’m trying out new recipes for our little contest. Very pleasing taste testing! LOL

I’m not sure I what I like the most- it somewhat depends on the day and weather. Ice cream is great but sherbet and sorbet can be so refreshing. I have to admit I think I’ve only had granita once and don’t really remember it.
