Ball® FreshTECH Automatic Home Canning System Giveaway

Ball® FreshTECH Automatic Home Canning System

 

 Here’s a quick, little preview for ya!

After browsing through the recipe booklet and the auto canning recipes on freshpreserving.com, I was intrigued by the Reduced Sugar Strawberry Balsamic Jam and decided to start with that one.

Untitled design(2) I could smell the balsamic vinegar when it was cooking on the stove.  But you can’t tell it’s in there after it’s been canned and cooled.  It just tastes like delicious homemade strawberry jam!    01PicMonkey Collage The process is easy.  You need to preheat the clean jars in the canner.  The step-by-step directions in the recipe tells you exactly what to do.  Cook the jam on the stove and pour it into a preheated jar.  Clean the jar edge with a clean, damp cloth.  Put the lid and ring on and tighten.  It is recommended that you keep the other jars in the canner (with the lid closed) while you fill one jar at a time.  Once you have all the jars in the canner, you lock the lid and press the buttons indicated in the recipe.  For this jam, I pressed Jams & Jellies, then press Recipe 1 and then Start.  It’s that simple!  When the processing time is up, the canner makes a nice, melodic sound.  When you open the canner, the jar lids go ping, ping, ping, ping (which is the sound of a good seal).  There are directions in the booklet that explains how to handle the jars after canning.   01IMG_2685   The next thing I made is the Reduced Sugar Mulled Apple Cider Jelly.  It is fantastic!  I found this recipe on freshpreserving.com as well.   CCIMG_2886

77IMG_2942   The third thing that I made is Bread & Butter Pickles.  This recipe came from the booklet that comes with the appliance.  It tastes just like store-bought pickles!    4IMG_2743   4IMG_2772   My Thoughts I love this appliance!  You don’t have to worry about a certain level of water over the jars.  It only needs a couple of inches of water in this appliance.  With the canner locked tight, there’s no evaporation to worry about.  You don’t have to keep an eye on it while it’s processing.  It automatically adjusts to your altitude when it comes to the processing time.  It’s easy to clean and very user-friendly. I’m kind of a kitchen gadget girl, so I think it’s fun to use!     A few years ago, after a surplus of local apples, I taught myself how to preserve them in various forms using water-bath canning. Since then, I’ve made jams and preserves with different fruits, too, but I’m still kind of a nervous wreck during the canning process. If I had the Ball FreshTECH Automatic Home Canning System, I could concentrate more on the product and less on the process, and I’m sure I’d enjoy putting up my own canned goods much more.     What a treat that would be to have a device like that to help me take care of my husband and three ( almost four) children. In all my travels I’ve never heard of a device that helps with canning . I use to do that the old fashion way but as I burned my fingers more than a couple of times and had more than a fair share of badly canned products I gave up canning for good. I believe this device could help me restore my faith in my ability to prepare jams, pickles, mushroom etc. And to do it all with a smile on my face ….. priceless :-)

    I’m very excited about this product, I used to can a lot of things with my Mother growing up, strawberry jam, bread and butter pickles, relish etc. But now that I’m older I have disabilities that make it very nerve-wracking for me to deal with hot cauldrons and boiling water. The fact that this machine automates a lot of the processes would make it so much safer for me to use with my vertigo and hand tremors. I think with it I could can again.

Over the years, I have done some canning (I make a mean canned dilly beans for Cristmas gifts) but nothing elaborate.     I would find so much use for the ball canner… I grew up in the 60’s my parents canned any fruit they could get their hands on. Canning was considered an economic savings at that time. I have continued the tradition for my family for the quality and it’s fun!
    I still use the blue speckled canner with a wire insert from my childhood. It’s dangerous when lifting jars with the wobbly wire rack out of boiling water.

    I have never done any home canning, but this system makes it look if not easy, less daunting! It would be nice to do something with the surplus of Cukes and Tomatoes the garden is giving me.
