Why do I call it “weekend” pizza? Well, from start to finish, it takes about 3 hours. This is a great recipe to make on the weekend when you’re home for the day and still able to keep an eye on the rising dough.

We love pizza at my house. But I’ve never been happy with homemade pizza dough until I made this recipe. This pizza is delicious and has a great thick crust. This recipe makes 2 pizzas in two 8-inch cake pans and feeds 2-3 people. If you want to double the amount of dough, I would suggest making two separate batches of dough, so it comes out right.

I've actually never had deep dish pizza before, but it certainly looks like a decadent sort of dinner!

My girls really enjoy making homemade pizza and they love, love, love, thick pizza dough. I will give your dough recipe a try. I like that you placed them in cake pans - makes it so much easier!

Now THAT is a pizza! That looks wonderful. I'll have to show Grant the recipe. (He's the pizza-maker!)

All I can say is Mmm mmm mmm. As a usual fan of authentic thin Italian pizza, its funny that the photo of this pizza is calling me, bigtime! Looks like the perfect winter weekend night dinner. I'm going to be trying this soon for sure!

Yes, you can freeze the dough. Remove as much air as possible from the bag to avoid freezer burn. Thaw in the refrigerator for a few days until it starts to expand.
