Remember my post on my Paula Deen ham ? A very sweet reader contacted me about the Scalloped Potato recipe in these photos. (Thanks for asking Elizabeth!) I don’t know why I never posted it on here before. My mom made this recipe for years. Now it’s a favorite in my house! It goes with anything, but I especially love it with ham. If you have a pot luck dinner to go to, this is a great side dish to bring! It’s creamy and cheesy and OH SO GOOD!
Scalloped Potatoes
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup flour
5 cups whole milk (warmed in the microwave for 1 minute on high)
8 oz. Cheez Whiz
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
3 1/2 lbs. potatoes (about 11 medium potatoes)
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 13 x 9-inch baking dish with nonstick spray and set aside.
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter, add the flour, and whisk for 1 minute. Add the warm milk slowly and whisk until it thickens. Remove from heat and stir in the Cheez Whiz until it melts and is completely blended. Season with salt and pepper.
3. Peel and slice the potatoes 1/4-inch thin. Place the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Pour the cheese sauce over the potatoes. Stir well.
4. Bake uncovered at 350°F for 90 minutes.
Servings: 8

Thanks for this recipe. It looks so good, and I will be making it for sure!
In the grocery stores here in Utah, Cheez Whiz is found on the shelf by the boxes of Velveeta, and not in the refrigerated case. Just thought I’d let people know to check there if they can’t find it in the dairy section.
Thanks again for the recipe!

These look great! I’ll have to try these. I think Cheez Whiz is found in the aisle at our local grocery store as well.
