I love making soup and having a good bread stick to accompany it, is the perfect meal.  I love this recipe because it comes together quickly, you can  make it ahead of time and even add in anything you’d like.  Our favorite is parmesan and garlic, however we’ve had sesame seed, poppy seed, garlic and red pepper…the flavors are endless.  These are even a great addition to your favorite pasta meal!

Ingredients
  1. 1 1/4 C warm water
  2. 2 tsp. sugar
  3. 1 (1/4 oz or 7 grams) package yeast
  4. 1 Tbsp. butter, softened
  5. 1 tsp. salt
  6. 3-4 C flour
  7. *optional
  8. melted butter
  9. garlic powder
  10. salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees; grease a cookie sheet.
  2. Place the warm water, sugar and yeast into a bowl; let proof for five minutes.
  3. In another bowl, mix 3 cups of flour, salt and butter together.
  4. Pour in the yeast mixture.
  5. Mix until the dough comes together and it doesn't stick when you touch it; gradually add the last cup of flour if needed. Knead for five minutes.
  6. Place in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
  7. Allow to rise for about an hour; until doubled in size.
  8. Roll out (on a floured surface) into a 12 x 20 inch rectangle.
  9. Cut in half lengthways and then into individual sticks; place onto cookie sheet. Cover with a towel and let rise for another 20-30 minutes.
  10. Bake for 13-15 minutes; until golden brown.
  11. Brush on some melted butter, then sprinkle on garlic powder and salt.
  12. Enjoy!
To make this into a loaf of bread
  1. Roll out the dough then roll it up lengthways and place onto the cookie sheet. Brush with cold water and make a few cuts across the top of the dough; allow to rise an additional 20-30 minutes.
