Put ‘em Up! Cookbook Giveaway

THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED!
Do you do any canning in your kitchen?  It’s been a while for me, but I have canned jam, salsa, and pickles with great success!  I think homemade canned food make great gifts for family and friends and now is the perfect time of year to do it.
Author Sherri Brooks Vinton has just published Put’em Up! A Comprehensive Home Preserving Guide for the Creative Cook from Drying and Freezing to Canning and Pickling.

Sit back and get to know Sherri!

In the next video, Sherri demonstrates the Boiling Water Method.  I used this method to make her Classic Strawberry Jam (shown below).

I love how Sherri’s cookbook is organized.  For instance, if you’re into strawberries like me, you’ll find the following recipes in the “Strawberries” section:

Individually Frozen Strawberries
Back-Burner Strawberry Sauce
Quick Strawberry Jam
Classic Strawberry Jam
Strawberry Vinegar
Strawberry Vodka

If you’re into Tomatoes, you could make:

Frozen Tomato Puree
Easy-Bake Tomato Paste
Roasted Tomato Sauce
Heirloom Tomato Salsa
My-Way Marinara
Canned Whole Tomatoes
Spicy Tomato Aspic
Frozen Whole Tomatoes
Oven Dried Tomatoes

As I said above, I made Sherri’s Classic Strawberry Jam.  It was easy and delicious!  Check out my photos!
Cook and stir the jam until it thickens.
I actually cut her recipe in half and the warm jam filled nearly three 4oz. jelly jars.
Boil the jars for 10 minutes.
The result:  A delicious jam for my morning English muffin!
Now…do I keep these for myself or give them away?

By the way, if you’re looking for some nice printable canning labels online, I got these HERE.  All you need to do is download the labels and print them out on #8165 Avery  8 1/2″ x 11″ white shipping labels and cut out the labels.  You can also buy canning labels at Walmart or where ever canning supplies are sold.  (I just couldn’t find any at the time that I made my jam.)

For more info about Sherri Brooks Vinton and her fabulous book, check out her website HEREPut ‘em UP! is available at Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com!

I can jam, tomatoes and salsa every year. What I'd love to learn to do is pressure canning, so I could do meat and sauces.

This book sounds terrific. Thanks for such an awesome giveaway.

We did freezer strawberry and blueberry jam last year. The strawberry worked perfectly but the blueberry was too runny so we used it as ice cream sauce or stirred it into yogurt and smoothies. I also do applesauce. It’s not technically canning but more freezing. Still wonderful all year round. I would love to can salsa since I’m a Texas transplant to the north and miss that great taste.

Super giveaway! I’ve only been a helper in canning…my husband makes an awesome batch of homemade bbq sauce so we’ve canned that, but I’d like to learn to do it all…can’t think of what I’d want to try first…perhaps spaghetti sauce…My hubby makes his own delicious batch!!!
