JC100 ~ Julia Child’s Omelette Roulée

Culinary icon Julia Child would have turned 100 years old on August 15th of this year. To honor her, a panel of culinaries, including celebrity chef Thomas Keller, former restaurant critic of The New York Times Ruth Reichl, and food writer Amanda Hesser, have selected their most beloved 100 Julia Child recipes to share with her fans during the 100 days leading up to her 100th birthday.

I am truly honored to be chosen as a blogger to take part in this tribute to Julia Child by making and posting some of the 100 recipes on my blog!

Omelette Roulée (Rolled Omelette), - “dinner in half a minute,” as she described it on her cooking show The French Chef,” is the first of 100 recipes to be shared.  You can view the entire recipe with illustrations from Julia’s amazing cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking HERE and it will be posted on Facebook on May 14th.

As a JC100 participant, I received this recipe a week in advance and made this simple cheese omelette (below).  To be honest, I have never made a “rolled” omelette.  I always folded the omelette in half.  This rolled omelette cooks at a higher heat and cooks much faster than the way I have been making them all these years.  This rolled technique produces a nice tender omelette.  I will be using this technique from now on.  Thanks Julia!

Here is the great Julia Child demonstrating how to make the rolled omelette!

I’ve always folded my omelettes too. I’ll have to try the rolled technique next.
