It was great to get away from my computer this past weekend! I spent Friday - Monday in Washington DC with my sisters Laura and Ann, and my niece Leah. Ann’s daughter, Leah, lives in Maryland and put us up for the weekend. (Thanks again Leah!)

On Saturday morning, we wanted to go for a bike ride so we rented bikes at Up the Creek Rentals in Indian Head, MD and spent a few hours on the Indian Head Rail Trail. It was SO HOT, but a lot of fun!

On Sunday, we took the Metro to Washington DC. What a cool train system! It is so clean and modern compared to the “T” in Boston.

We booked a 3 hour air conditioned bus tour from On Board Tours and got off at the following stops.

The U.S. Capitol

The White House

World War II Memorial

Jefferson Memorial

Korean War Memorial

Lincoln Memorial

The Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial was empty and undergoing repairs. 🙁

Vietnam Memorial

There is over 58,000 names listed on the Vietnam Memorial. Approximately 1,200 of these are listed as missing (MIA’s, POW’s, and others).
Our time in Washington DC was very short. I hope to go back with my husband Dave some day and spend more time at the memorials and museums.
I’m already missing Ann and Leah’s cute little dogs!

This is the first time I went to Washington DC. Both of our boys went there on their 8th Grade Class Trip. Have you ever been to Washington DC?

What a fun get away! You definitely saw all the sights!
I live in MD (only about 15 miles from downtown DC) so I have definitely been to DC! But of course you don’t often play “tourist” in your own town, do you? LOL. However, I happened to win a free hotel getaway last month so we made a fun weekend out of it for just hubby and I. We did a lot of walking, eating and seeing the sites. Kind of a different experience when you don’t have to drag the pre-schoolers along! 😉 It is a really fun city with so many free things to do!
Hurrah for you! What lovely pictures of your fun time ‘exploring’. I love it all and am so tickled to know you made it to my favorite Korean memorial. =) My brother and wife live near DC - he works at the Pentagon - and I’ve worn my legs/hips out doing so much walking while there. It was good for me I’m sure! I’m really happy I got to see your pictures.
I live in the DC area and I always think it’s so fun to hear about “my” city from an outsider’s perspective. The Korean memorial is my absolute favorite. So sorry you didn’t get the full effect with the reflecting pool.
