Yvonne Ruperti has been baking and cooking for over 15 years, in professional kitchens, test kitchens, and her own bakery. You may recognize her from her three seasons on the Emmy-nominated hit PBS cooking show, America’s Test Kitchen. She is also a writer and currently pens the weekly Chocoholic column for the James Beard award winning food site, Serious Eats.

Over the years, Yvonne realized that when she baked at home, she often condensed steps in a recipe in order to make the process easier, and to avoid washing unnecessary bowls and equipment. Her new book, ONE BOWL BAKING, is all about simplifying baking—not by using cake mixes, but by eliminating extra steps, extra appliances, and extra bowls. No electric mixers, no food processors, or other fancy equipment required. It’s for readers who are busy but still want to bake from scratch. Most of the recipes can even be assembled and in the oven in 15 minutes or less. Some don’t even require a bowl—they’re mixed directly in the pan!

Recipes cover all areas of baking: breakfast muffins and scones, cupcakes, cookies, layer cakes, cheesecakes, tarts, and more.  From Sour Cream Breakfast Biscuits to Sweet and Salty Pretzel Crunch Cupcakes, ONE BOWL BAKING is the go-to resource for both classic and unique recipes made from scratch and using just one bowl.

It’s funny…I’ve been a foodie all my life, but the older I get, the more I want to keep things simple in the kitchen.  I teach during the school year, come home to the cutest dog ever (who needs a walk and some one-on-one time, catch up on emails and blog-related stuff, throw a dinner together for me and Dave, (Andrew is usually away at college), clean the kitchen, and settle down for a few hours of blogging.  So you can see why a cookbook like this would appeal to someone like me!  One bowl baking?  Yes, please!

First of all, the recipes in this book are delightfully simple and the photos are easy on the eyes (yum!)  Yvonne has a delicious variety of recipes including muffins, scones, cookies, cupcakes, quick breads, cakes, cheesecakes and tarts.

I made two recipes from this book so far, and they both came out wonderful!

This photo doesn’t do it justice, but this is the Banana Bourbon Cake with Bourbon Whipped Cream from page 129.  Oh my goodness!  It is so good!  It tastes just like banana bread but with a lighter cake texture.  The bourbon is a nice touch too.  I brought it to school and put it in the Teacher’s Lounge and got rave reviews!  One teacher even asked for the recipe and she is an awesome cook.  I didn’t make the whipped cream to go with it because I honestly loved it all by itself!  I will definitely make this again and again!

The Apple Crisp Mix-In-The-Pan Bars from page 85 called my name from day one.  It’s apple season and I needed my Apple Crisp fix!  These easy bars are delicious!  It has a crunchy layer on the bottom, soft apple/cinnamon/sugar layer in the middle, and crispy, sweet nuggets on top!  Really good stuff!

Ummm!  Can’t wait to try more recipes!  I’m giving this cookbook a mouthwatering two thumbs up!

One Bowl Baking is available at Amazon.  The baker in your life would love it for Christmas!  Just sayin’!

Wow! I would love both of these recipes. I am also about keeping things easy in the kitchen. Do you think she would let you post the apple crisp mix in the pan bars?? I would love that recipe! :)

No wonder she looks familiar! Havig worked at ATK and SE. One-bowl baking? Great idea, less clean-up which means I can fully enjoy dessert now!
