Flour, Too

Joanne Chang’s 2nd book, Flour, Too, is another hit in my opinion!  I went to a book signing of her first book, Flour, in Boston two years ago, and have been a fan of her and her book ever since.

First of all, did you know that Joanne has 4 cafés in Boston?  Yep, I have been wanting to visit them for some time now and haven’t gotten around to it.  But my son lives in Boston and he has been to one of them.  He raved about her Smoked Turkey with Sharp Cheddar and Cranberry Chutney Sandwich.  And guess what?!  That recipe is in this new cookbook!  I can’t wait until the fresh cranberries are out so I can make it!

Flour, Too includes the most-requested savory dishes from her cafés.  The book is divided into 6 sections:  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Party Time, Drinks, and Basics.  The photos are beautiful and the recipes are easy but some are definitely more time consuming than others.

I tried 3 recipes from the book so far.  I chose to make the Flour Focaccia on page 282 so I could use it for the Applewood-Smoked BLT on page 150.

The Focaccia came out great!

I sliced the Focaccia bread and lightly toasted it.  This BLT is awesome with Joanne’s Balsamic Vinaigrette drizzled over the baby arugula!  It was THE BEST BLT Sandwich I ever made!  The Balsamic Vinaigrette is an excellent addition!

I made the New England-Style Beans with Thick-Cut Bacon on page 188.  I LOVE the thick pieces of bacon in this recipe!  Good stuff!

As a foodie, it’s fun reading the Intro that describes what it’s like to run her ever-popular bakery and cafés.  There are behind-the-scene photos of Joanne and her employees and the fabulous food that they all make.

I definitely recommend Joanne’s cookbooks!  I’m thrilled to make these popular recipes in my own kitchen and you will too!
