Recently, I went on a family trip to CA with my husband, Dave and son, Andrew. In case you missed it, here is Day One: Venice Beach and Santa Monica.
On our second day in CA, we drove up and down the coast of Laguna Beach to see the beautiful homes and searched for a beach that we could go to.
This public beach seemed like the best place to hang out. It had plenty of restaurants and shops.
We sat on the beach for a little while and Andrew went in for a quick dip.
The water temperature in SoCal is the same as it is in New England…COLD (62-65°F) Brr!
Can you imagine the nice view from these houses overlooking the beach?
Keep dreaming Jane!
I wish we had more time to check out the area. Laguna Beach was beautiful!
We had a heck of a time getting into Newport Beach. It was bumper-to-bumper. I guess the parking situation is not the greatest near the Newport Pier.
We found a place to park many blocks away and walked up this nice boardwalk. The beach houses were nice and very well kept.
A view from the Newport Pier
Apparently, this is a good place to fish! The pier was packed.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pelican before! Maybe at a zoo? This guy was resting on the pier and I saw him dive into the ocean. So cool!
Newport Beach is beautiful! I would love to go back and see more of it!
Have you been to Laguna or Newport Beach? What do you like to do there?

I haven’t been to Newport, but I’ve stood in several of the same places you did in Laguna. Wonderful place, and you’re so right about the house on the hills. I was always fascinated by how they were constructed and how they could stay up there.
Parking and bump to bumper traffic are always an issue in Southern CA.
The other thing you realize is that it’s warm there, but during the summer, much of the nation is more warm.
Ida,
While we were in CA, it was hot and humid and in the 90′s back home in MA. I couldn’t believe how cool it was in CA!
I love the pic. of Andrew looking down on the beach. The water looks so inviting…love the blue color! Great photos Jane. I am enjoying them. I have never been to CA and would love to go someday!
Thanks Kristi! I have more pictures of the back of us. I guess we’re all camera shy.
I grew up going to all of the beaches along PCH. I always loved going to Newport because you could park in the neighborhoods and avoid a bunch of crowds that you get at the beaches like Laguna and Huntington. It looks like you had a great time! It’s fun to see the places that I grew up going to from other peoples’ perspectives.
Elizabeth,
It’s fun to hear from someone who has lived there! I can’t wait to go back to CA to explore more places!
Looks like you guys had a great trip. I’ve never been to California, but it’s definitley on my list of places to visit…..hopefully soon!
