All Aboard!

My husband took this photo of my son Matthew this morning in San Diego, CA. This bus was about to bring him to the MV Explorer, the ship that will take him on a voyage around the world. The parents were not allowed to bring their children to the ship because they had to board the ship in Mexico. It will depart later today and head for Hawaii. [Cue the ukulele music!]

If you’d like to follow my posts about his trip, click on the Semester at Sea label on the right side bar. This is the Semester at Sea Spring 2010 itinerary:

  • San Diego, CA USA *
  • Hilo / Honolulu, Hawaii USA
  • Yokohama / Kobe, Japan
  • Shanghai / Hong Kong, China
  • Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam
  • Chennai / Cochin, India
  • Port Louis, Mauritius
  • Cape Town, South Africa
  • Tema (Accra), Ghana
  • Salvador, Brazil
  • Fort Lauderdale, FL USA

When my husband and I saw this video for the first time, we looked at each other and said “Oh my God, this is going to change his life. This is unbelievable!” If you have a few minutes, check it out.

When I watched the end of this video and saw the students reunited with their parents after the voyage, I knew right then and there that we have to meet Matthew in Florida when he steps off that ship. I’m planning on recruiting my eager 2nd graders to help me make a welcome home sign to hold up! To be continued…

    Hey everyone,
Thanks for your comments! Just my husband was able to go to San Diego to see him off as he was also there on business. I stayed home with Andrew (my high school son). That video is actually part of a great video that we have on DVD at home. I was hoping I wasn't the only one crying at the end! I still can't believe he's actually going to have this experience! Adults can also go on this trip. I say we all start planning! :)

This is such an awesome opprtunity for Matthew. How exciting! It will be amazing. The gift of travel is probably one of the most important things we can give our children. Cheers to you!!!
