I had a great time with family and friends today! My son Matthew showed us a slide show of his Semester at Sea voyage. It was so interesting. I love hearing all of his stories! His heart seems 10 times bigger since he traveled around the world and had this experience.
I got the recipe at Pillsbury.com. Click HERE for the recipe. [I cooked these brownies a little longer than directed. You really need to bake them until an inserted tooth pick comes out clean.]
A week ago, Matthew came to my classroom to talk to the 2nd and 3rd graders about his trip. He actually held their attention for 2 hours! It was amazing! Even though Matthew talked about what he saw and did in each country, he emphasized how lucky he is for meeting so many nice people around the world and how great it was to learn about their culture. It was truly a humbling experience for him. It changed him forever. Here’s a picture [from my cell phone] of Matthew in my classroom.

My goodness those brownies look divine! Those thank you cards are adorable too.
Great story :)
those brownies look decadent..I think I will try them for a family get together this weekend..the cards are great too..I am sure the kids were just fascinated…thanks for sharing
yum! I will be trying those. And that card is truly priceless. :)
The brownies look FANTASTIC!!
Just discovered your blog, you are a girl after my own heart! I always spend my weekends cooking as many meals as I can fit in my freezer - it's lovely to be able to come home from work and just stick a lovely, healthy, home cooked meal in the oven rather than a salt filled, tasteless, calorific ready meal!
The brownies are definitely on my “to make” list! I enjoyed hearing about your son’s trip and your students appreciation for what he’s done. That must be so awesome to have the summers off! I am jealous!
Jane - I’m not sure how I missed this lovely post, but I just ADORE the stories about your son. How sweet that he shared with your class. That’s so special. These brownies certainly look divine…I’m definitely going to have to try them soon. Thanks for sharing such beautiful mouth-watering pictures!
And your life as well. I know you must be VERY proud of your son - and rightly so. I don’t know anyone else that has ever had this kind of experience at sea. Good for him!
