2012 Hood New England Dairy Cook-Off Recap

 

I had a great weekend!

 

I drove to Providence, RI Saturday afternoon with my friend Kristi from Moms Own Words, so we could attend the 2012 Hood New England Dairy Cook-Off on Sunday.

 

It was great spending time with some super nice bloggers from New England!

 

Each participant had a student from Johnson & Wales University to help them.

 

The competition was fierce!  These are the 5 finalists!  They went head to head in the evening as the Cook-Off was being taped for a show that will be aired on Nov. 10th.

 

Billy Costa was an excellent host as usual!

 

The judge on the left (in the orange top) is Celebrity Chef Michele Ragussis featured on Food Network Star Season 8, Chopped, and 24 Hour Restaurant Battle.

 

Each finalist explained their dish to the judges and named the Hood ingredient that they used.

 

Mary Jo Fletcher LaRocco came in First Place and won $10,000 with her delicious Cranberry Limoncello Tarts in a Gingersnap Hazelnut Crust!  I was excited for her to win.  This was her 4th time competing.  I was lucky enough to get a taste of her dish in the semi finalist competition earlier in the day.  It is absolutely fantastic!  Want the recipe?!

      You are too kind Lily! I actually stressed over how the outfit I wore made me look big. I’m at my heaviest weight right now. It’s hard to make time to exercise between work and blogging. At my age, I can’t eat like I used to. So to answer your question, I mostly bake when I have to review a cookbook, otherwise, I don’t bake much because my husband and I don’t need the extra calories. Sometimes, I sample food and bring the rest to work and let other teachers enjoy it. Sometimes I give the rest to my boys. As a foodie, I let myself enjoy whatever I want when I go to a restaurant. Life is too short! But I do watch what I eat during the week.
