THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED!
When my boys were babies, I fed them store-bought baby food. I guess in my circle of friends and family, no one made home made baby food back then. Today, times are different. If I were raising babies today, I would definitely make organic baby food for my child for health and financial reasons.
Here is an interesting quote from 201 Organic Baby Purees that will really get you thinking about making organic baby food for your child.
“When your baby eats a diet made up of mostly organic food, she is at less risk of developing certain diseases, neurological disorders, or other adverse health effects from chemical exposure. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that infants and children are at greater risks of pesticide exposure for a variety of reasons, including the following:
- They have immature or underdeveloped internal organs;
- They consume more food and water than adults, possibly increasing their exposure to pesticides in food and water;
- They play on floors or lawns or put objects in their mouths, increasing exposure to pesticides used in homes and yards.
Contrary to popular belief, rinsing foods and vegetables with a mild soap solution or vegetable wash, or soaking leafy greens such as collard greens and spinach for hours, is not enough to eliminate all the pesticide residue. The only way to be sure there is no pesticide residue is to purchase organic foods, which are pesticide and chemical free!”
According to author Tamika Gardner, “One six-ounce jar of organic pureed bananas may cost around the same price as a pound of organic bananas. Where you’d get one jar of food before, you’ll get six to eight by making your own!”

First of all, I love the wide variety of recipes in this book. The recipes are super short and easy. The first 3 chapters are filed with helpful information about organic food and tricks of the trade. The chapters are divided into the following stages:
First Stage Meals (6 - 7 months): Smooth Purees for Beginner Explorers
More Flavor to Savor (8 or 9 months): Introducing Semismooth Purees
Pleasing an Expanded Palate (10-12 months): Chunky Purees for Little Ones
Fun and Fingerlicious Food (12 months and beyond) : Traditional Meals for Toddlers
Here are some of the photos from the book!

I make my own baby food but I’m sure my son would love it if I branched out a bit and tried different recipes!
I love the beautiful colors on the cover of this book. It makes me want to read it! =) I have a 20-month old that I made baby food for and I am expecting again in several weeks. Between these two little ones, I know I would get some good use out of this book. Sometimes I just run out of ideas on what to make!
I would love a copy of this book. My son is starting solid foods tonight! Over the holidays when I had some time I made lots of purees. I just did a single vegetable or fruit though. It would be great to have some recipes to go by. Wish us luck tonight with the sweet potatoes!

Hi Elizabeth!
Thank you so much for the compliments on the book! I just wanted to let everyone know that as a mom on a budget, expensive gadgets are not required to make purees. I used a $20 blender that I got from Target and it worked out great. Because blenders and food processors have more than one function (blend, chop, puree, mix, etc) it’s better to use to tweak puree consistencies than a device that doesn’t have those options. Also, blenders and food processors can be used after baby has graduated to table food. Just wanted to share that tip!
